At Frames Now, we recently had the pleasure of framing a stunning limited edition Mexico Olympic poster. This piece, with its bold graphics and historical significance, deserved a framing treatment that would both enhance its visual impact and ensure its longevity.
A Tribute to the 1968 Mexico Olympics
The 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City were a historic event, marking the first time the Games were held in Latin America. Known for groundbreaking moments, including the introduction of the now-iconic Fosbury Flop high jump technique and Tommie Smith and John Carlos’ famous Black Power salute, the Mexico Olympics remain one of the most memorable in history.
For Australia, the 1968 Olympics saw our athletes bring home 17 medals—5 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze. Some of our standout performances included Mike Wenden’s double gold in the 100m and 200m freestyle swimming and Ralph Doubell’s gold in the 800m track event, a record-breaking run that still stands as one of Australia’s greatest Olympic moments.
A Framing Design Inspired by the Olympic Rings
To honour the Olympic Games’ iconic colours, we incorporated a mat board representing each of the five Olympic rings—black, blue, yellow, green, and red. This layered mat design created a striking visual effect, drawing attention to the poster while symbolising the unity and diversity the Olympics represent.
The frame itself was a simple, understated black design, allowing the artwork and matting to take centre stage. This choice ensured that the final piece remained timeless and versatile, suitable for any display space.

To preserve the integrity of this historical print, we used museum glass—a premium glazing option that provides exceptional clarity while protecting against harmful UV rays and glare. This ensures that the colours remain vivid and that the delicate details of the artwork are shielded from fading over time.
